What kids do

“Find your pulse and count. What makes your heart speed up?”

  1. Beats in 15 seconds
  2. Graph it
  3. Draw how your heart felt
  4. My heart sped up because…
  5. My guess for after running a race:

How to run it

  • Find the pulse on the side of the neck or the wrist with two fingers.
  • One person keeps time for the class.
  • Let kids sit out the jumping if they need to.

Talk about it

  • Why does your heart beat faster when you move?
  • How fast does it slow down?
  • Does an animal’s heart beat faster or slower?

Take it further

Multiply your 15-second count by 4 to get beats per minute.
