Little artists welcome!

Classroom ideas

One page, a dozen lessons

Draw & write

Draw a character first, then give it a name, a problem and a plan. Little ones tell the story out loud; older students write the comic.

Change one thing

Everyone draws the same page, then changes one thing: the face, the outfit, the job. Hang them side by side and compare.

Topic tie-ins

An animal page becomes a habitat scene. A robot gets an invention to explain to the class. A dinosaur gets a fact card.

Questions teachers ask

Good to know

Can I print copies for my whole class?

Yes. Print as many copies as your class needs, to use in the classroom or send home.

What do students need?

A printed page and a pencil. Crayons, markers or colored pencils for the tracing and coloring pages. Book pages print as letter-size PDFs.

Which pages suit my grade?

Trace Then Color pages are made for ages 3 and up, How to Draw pages for ages 5 and up. Draw by Grid suits older, more patient artists who like a challenge.

How do the Draw by Grid sets work?

Each set prints as two pages: the character on a lettered grid, then a blank grid. Students copy one square at a time until the whole character appears.

Are there videos I can show the class?

Yes. 77 activities include a step-by-step video lesson. Filter by Sub days, or look for the Video lesson tag.

Where do these pages come from?

Every page is original artwork by cartoonist Kevin Coulston, from the FirstArtBooks drawing, tracing and grid books and the free activity posts.
