What kids do

“Every animal needs a good home. Draw one and show what it needs to survive.”

  1. My animal and its habitat:
  2. Draw the animal at home. Label food, water, shelter and space.
  3. I labeled
  4. What would happen if one of those were missing?

How to run it

  • Give each table a different habitat: desert, ocean, rainforest, polar, backyard.
  • Labels need arrows pointing to the right thing.
  • Use a library book or the animal facts on each free drawing page for research.

Talk about it

  • Which need is hardest to find in your habitat?
  • How do people change habitats?
  • What does our classroom pet (or we) need?

Take it further

Draw the same animal in the wrong habitat and explain what goes wrong.
