What kids do

“Find the shapes hiding in this robot. Then build your own character from shapes.”

  1. Find the shapes
  2. Tally them
  3. Build a new character from exactly 6 shapes
  4. My character is made of…

How to run it

  • Count one shape together first so kids see how tallies work.
  • Answers will vary a little: that’s a good discussion.
  • Shape blocks or cut-out paper shapes help younger kids.

Talk about it

  • Which shape did you find most often?
  • Is a rounded rectangle still a rectangle?
  • Could you build your character with only circles?

Take it further

Swap characters and count the shapes in a partner’s drawing.
