What kids do

“Five ready-made meetings with a kindness theme. Keep a class kindness tally on the board all week.”

Printed on the sheet:

  1. Kind word greeting:
  2. “Good morning, ___.
  3. You are a great friend.”
  4. A time someone was kind to you.
  5. Kindness charades: act
  6. This week we will notice kindness. Add a tally each time you see it.
  7. Smile and wave: greet each friend with a big smile.
  8. One kind thing you could do at recess.

Teacher tip

Add a kindness jar and drop in a note each time someone does something kind.

How to use it

  • Sit in a circle so everyone can see each other’s faces.
  • Keep it short: 15 to 20 minutes works for most classes.
  • Introduce the sheet once, model it, then make it part of a routine so kids know what to expect.

Watch for

Kids who do not want to share. Let them pass and come back later.

Talk about it

  • How did it feel to be greeted by name?
  • Why do you think we use this in our classroom?

Take it further

Let kids take turns leading parts of the meeting.
