What kids do

“Sort your leaves by color. Color one square for each leaf!”

  1. Leaves we found (write the colors under the bars)
  2. The most common color was…
  3. I think that’s because…

How to run it

  • Gather leaves outside or bring a bag in.
  • Sort on the floor into piles first, then fill in the graph.
  • Compare graphs from early and late fall.

Talk about it

  • Which color had the most? The least?
  • Would the graph look different next week?
  • What else could we sort and graph?

Take it further

Graph leaves by shape instead of color.
