What kids do

“Pick up one leaf and look at it like a scientist and an artist.”

  1. Draw your leaf’s veins and colors inside
  2. My leaf has…
  3. My leaf is shaped like… and feels like…

How to run it

  • Collect leaves on a walk, or bring a bag in for the class.
  • Ignore the outline shape if your leaf is different: draw your own.
  • Press the real leaf in a book and display it with the drawing.

Talk about it

  • Why do leaves change color?
  • Were any two leaves exactly the same?
  • What colors did you find?

Take it further

Make a leaf rubbing on the back with the side of a crayon.
