What kids do

“This scarecrow needs help! Design a new look that keeps the crows away.”

  1. My scarecrow makeover
  2. Its outfit
  3. Why the crows will stay away (or come and laugh):

How to run it

  • Read a fall picture book with a scarecrow in it.
  • Clothes, a hat, a sign, a gadget: anything goes.
  • Older kids can explain why each part works.

Talk about it

  • What would really scare a crow?
  • Is your scarecrow scary, silly or both?
  • What would a scarecrow do all night?

Take it further

Write a diary entry from the scarecrow’s point of view.
