What kids do

“Pick some stars and connect them into a picture. Give it a name!”

  1. Connect stars into a new constellation
  2. Its name and its story:
  3. A real constellation I want to find in the night sky:

How to run it

  • Look at a picture of the Big Dipper or Orion first.
  • Choose 6 to 10 dots and connect them with a ruler.
  • Turn off the lights and share with flashlights.

Talk about it

  • What did you make?
  • Why did people long ago name the stars?
  • Where can you see stars best?

Take it further

Go stargazing and look for a real constellation.
