What kids do

“Guess first, then test! Which one is heavier?”

  1. Predict, then test
  2. Draw a balance with the heavier thing down
  3. Big things are always heavier. True? Why?

How to run it

  • A hanger with two cups on strings makes a quick balance.
  • Write the guess before testing, no changes allowed!
  • Find a big light thing and a small heavy thing.

Talk about it

  • Were any guesses wrong? Why?
  • How could you compare without a scale?
  • What’s the heaviest thing you can lift?

Take it further

Line up five objects from lightest to heaviest.
