What kids do

“Will it see its shadow? Make your guess!”

  1. Shadow: six more weeks of winter
  2. No shadow: early spring
  3. Class votes
  4. I predict… because… What really happened:

How to run it

  • Explain the tradition in a sentence: if it’s sunny, there’s a shadow.
  • Kids draw both outcomes, then vote.
  • Check the news on February 2 and circle the right one.

Talk about it

  • What makes a shadow?
  • Can a groundhog really predict the weather?
  • How else could we predict spring?

Take it further

Go outside and check for your own shadow.
