What kids do

“Guess first, then test. Will it float or sink?”

  1. Predict, then test
  2. Draw the biggest surprise
  3. Things that float are often…

How to run it

  • Use a tub of water and safe objects: a cork, a coin, a crayon, a leaf, a spoon, a sponge.
  • Write predictions before any testing.
  • Mark correct predictions with a star, not wrong ones with an X.

Talk about it

  • Which result surprised you?
  • Does size decide if something floats?
  • How could we make something that sinks float?

Take it further

Make a foil boat and count how many coins it holds before it sinks.
