What kids do

“Insects have three body parts and six legs. Draw and label a real one, then invent a bug!”

  1. A real insect from a photo. Label: head, thorax, abdomen, legs, wings, antennae
  2. Every insect has…
  3. My invented insect (with all the parts!)

How to run it

  • Use a clear photo of a real ant, bee or beetle.
  • Draw label lines from each word to the part.
  • Spiders have eight legs, so they aren’t insects!

Talk about it

  • Is a spider an insect?
  • What do antennae do?
  • Which part of your insect is most useful?

Take it further

Go on a bug hunt and count legs.
