What kids do

Printed on the sheet:

  1. Write one letter of your name in each box, from top to bottom. Next to each letter, write a positive word or phrase about you that starts with that letter. Example for SAM: Smart, Artistic, Makes people laugh. Use your first and last name if you need more lines.

Teacher tip

Display the acrostics on desks for back-to-school night.

How to use it

  • Model kind self-talk out loud when you make a mistake.
  • Use it for morning meeting once a week.
  • Let kids choose to share or keep their answers private. Both are fine.

Watch for

Kids who struggle to name anything good about themselves. Help them with a specific example you have seen.

Talk about it

  • What is something you are proud of?
  • How might someone else see it differently?

Take it further

Record a class video of each child saying their favorite affirmation.

US Letter, prints well in black and white. Free for home and classroom use: print as many copies as you need.
