What kids do

“Write a word problem on the board. Students draw a model, write the equation and answer in a sentence.”

Printed on the sheet:

  1. Does it make sense?
  2. Answer in a sentence no, I will check again

Teacher tip

Have kids check if their answer makes sense by reading the problem again.

How to use it

  • Sort the tickets into piles to plan tomorrow’s small groups.
  • Collect tickets at the door as kids leave or line up.
  • Introduce the sheet once, model it, then make it part of a routine so kids know what to expect.

Watch for

Kids copying a neighbor. Spread out or give two different questions.

Talk about it

  • How sure are you about today’s lesson?
  • What is one thing that went well this week?

Take it further

Use the same ticket a week later to check for growth.

US Letter, prints well in black and white. Free for home and classroom use: print as many copies as you need.
