What kids do

“Draw what happened. Circle how you felt. Then draw what you can do next time.”

Printed on the sheet:

  1. How did I feel? Circle one.
  2. Next time I can…
  3. I talked about this with:

Teacher tip

Sit with the child and have them tell you about the drawing, then write their words for them.

How to use it

  • Give the sheet only when the child is calm. Reflection does not work in the middle of big feelings.
  • Sit next to the student and talk it through, especially for younger kids.
  • Introduce the sheet once, model it, then make it part of a routine so kids know what to expect.

Watch for

Students who write what they think you want to hear. Ask follow-up questions.

Talk about it

  • What could you try next time?
  • Why do you think we use this in our classroom?

Take it further
