What kids do

“At lunch and at the end of the day, color the face that shows how you did. Your teacher can color one too.”

Printed on the sheet:

  1. I kept my body safe.
  2. Today I am proud that I…
  3. Grown-up at home initials:

Teacher tip

Rate the expectations with the student at first, then let them try on their own.

How to use it

  • Focus on the plan for next time, not on the mistake.
  • Use a calm, neutral voice so the sheet feels like help, not punishment.
  • Fill one in with the class the first time so kids see what a finished one looks like.

Watch for

Reflection sheets used too often. If a student needs one daily, look for a bigger need.

Talk about it

  • What could you try next time?
  • Why do you think we use this in our classroom?

Take it further

Celebrate when a student uses their plan successfully.

US Letter, prints well in black and white. Free for home and classroom use: print as many copies as you need.
