What kids do

“Cut apart the strips and tape one to a student’s desk. Write a goal, and add a tally each time you notice it.”

Printed on the sheet:

  1. I am working on:
  2. Tally each time I do it

Teacher tip

Tape the strip to the desk and give a quiet tally instead of a verbal reminder.

How to use it

  • Give the sheet only when the child is calm. Reflection does not work in the middle of big feelings.
  • Sit next to the student and talk it through, especially for younger kids.
  • Fill one in with the class the first time so kids see what a finished one looks like.

Watch for

Students who write what they think you want to hear. Ask follow-up questions.

Talk about it

  • What could you try next time?
  • Why do you think we use this in our classroom?

Take it further

Check in a few days later to see how the plan is working.
