What kids do

“Trace the gray letters. Start at the top. Then write two on your own.”

Teacher tip

Spend extra time on letters with tails (p, q, y) so they drop below the line.

How to use it

  • Check pencil grip at the start, and keep the sheet tilted for comfort.
  • Keep sessions short: ten good minutes beats thirty tired ones.
  • Keep a word wall or a word bank in reach so spelling does not stop the ideas.

Watch for

Tight grips and sore hands. Try a pencil grip or a thicker pencil.

Talk about it

  • Which of your letters is your best one? Circle it.
  • What did you change when you reread your work?

Take it further

Write the letters with a wet sponge on a chalkboard.

US Letter, prints well in black and white. Free for home and classroom use: print as many copies as you need.
