What kids do

“Why is the sky blue? Why…? Keep asking why!”

  1. My first question:
  2. Climb down: each answer gets another why
  3. Draw the deepest answer
  4. Where I got stuck, and who could help:

How to run it

  • Start with an everyday question: Why do we sleep?
  • It’s fine to write “I don’t know yet.”
  • Research the step where you got stuck.

Talk about it

  • How deep did you get?
  • Which why was hardest?
  • Do grown-ups know all the answers?

Take it further

Ask a grown-up to try your why chain.
