What kids do

“You are from a lot of things! Collect them, then write your poem.”

  1. I’m from… (things and places)
  2. I’m from… (sayings and sounds)
  3. Foods
  4. People
  5. My poem: I am from…
  6. A picture of home

How to run it

  • Share your own short version first.
  • Small details are best: “the squeaky back door”, not just “my house”.
  • Every line can start with “I am from…”.

Talk about it

  • Which detail would surprise your friends?
  • What smell means home to you?
  • How is your poem different from a classmate’s?

Take it further

Read your poem to someone in your family.
