What kids do

“Here’s a secret: eyes sit halfway down your head!”

  1. Practice: draw a line halfway down for the eyes
  2. Now draw a whole face
  3. Did I…
  4. What surprised me about faces:

How to run it

  • Have kids feel their own face: eyes really are in the middle.
  • Draw light guide lines and erase them later.
  • Cartoon faces can break the rules on purpose.

Talk about it

  • Why do people draw eyes too high?
  • Do babies have the same rules?
  • When would you break the rules?

Take it further

Draw a face looking up and see how the lines move.
