What kids do

“Bright sky, dark shapes. Make a sunset silhouette!”

  1. Color warm stripes for the sky, then add black shapes
  2. Silhouettes I added:
  3. Why silhouettes look dark at sunset:

How to run it

  • Color the sky first with yellow at the bottom, then orange, red and purple going up.
  • Use a black marker or cut black paper for the shapes.
  • Shapes need clear outlines since there’s no detail inside.

Talk about it

  • Can you tell what each shape is without details?
  • What makes a good silhouette?
  • What time of day do you see silhouettes?

Take it further

Make a night version with a moon and cool colors.
