What kids do

“Pick three things, set them up and draw what you see. Notice which ones are in front!”

  1. My still life (three objects)
  2. I drew…
  3. What I chose and why:

How to run it

  • Fruit, mugs, toys and shoes all make good still lifes.
  • Put one object in front of another on purpose.
  • Remind kids to draw what they see, not what they know.

Talk about it

  • Which object was easiest to draw?
  • How did you show which thing was in front?
  • Why do artists paint fruit bowls?

Take it further

Draw the same setup from the other side of the table.
