What kids do

“Anyone can spot three things. Can you find ten?”

  1. Look here
  2. Details 1 to 5
  3. Details 6 to 10 (look even closer!)
  4. Draw the detail you almost missed
  5. Why was it easy to miss?

How to run it

  • Set a timer: two minutes for the first five, three for the next five.
  • Accept colors, shapes, lines, textures and feelings.
  • Pair it with a real object or a classroom photo for a second round.

Talk about it

  • Which detail did nobody else find?
  • Why do the last details take longer?
  • Did looking longer change how you feel about the character?

Take it further

Do the same with a page from a picture book and compare lists with a partner.
