What kids do

“Plants send their seeds on trips. How does each one get there?”

  1. How do you think each seed travels?
  2. Design a seed that travels a brand-new way
  3. My seed travels by…

How to run it

  • Show real seeds if you can: a dandelion head, a maple “helicopter”, a burr.
  • Some seeds use more than one way, so more than one tick is fine.
  • Check the guesses together at the end.

Talk about it

  • Why would a plant want its seeds to go far away?
  • Have you ever carried a seed without knowing it?
  • Which seed would win a long-distance race?

Take it further

Go on a walk and collect three seeds. Sort them by how they travel.
