What kids do

“Write your word going down. Each letter starts a new line of your poem!”

  1. My word (a name, a season, an animal):
  2. My poem (start each line with the next letter)
  3. A picture for my poem
  4. The best line in my poem is… because…

How to run it

  • Write the letters in the small spaces at the start of each line.
  • Lines can be one word or a whole phrase.
  • Names make great first acrostics.

Talk about it

  • Which letter was hardest?
  • Does your poem describe your word?
  • Could you make it rhyme?

Take it further

Write an acrostic for a friend’s name and give it to them.
