What kids do

Printed on the sheet:

  1. In this code, A = 1, B = 2, C = 3 and so on up to Z = 26. Write the letter that goes with each number.
  2. Crack the code. Write a letter on each line.
  3. Which motto will help you most with a goal? Why?

Teacher tip

Post the class’s favorite motto on the door.

How to use it

  • Share one of your own goals and the steps you are taking.
  • Keep the first goals small enough to reach in a week.
  • Let kids choose to share or keep their answers private. Both are fine.

Watch for

Goals that are too big or too vague. Help kids make them specific.

Talk about it

  • How will you know you reached your goal?
  • Have you ever been in a moment like this? What happened?

Take it further

Make a class goal, like reading 1,000 minutes, and track it on a big chart.
