What kids do

“Count the equal jumps from 0 to 1. Write the fraction at the arrow.”

Teacher tip

Fold a paper strip to match each line first. It shows why the jumps are equal.

How to use it

  • Ask kids to say each fraction out loud as “3 out of 4 equal parts.”
  • Shade lightly with colored pencil so mistakes are easy to fix.
  • Do the first problem together under a document camera, then let kids finish on their own.

Watch for

Adding the denominators (1/4 + 1/4 = 2/8). Draw it to show the pieces stay fourths.

Talk about it

  • Where do you use fractions at home, like in a recipe or a pizza?
  • Which problem was the hardest? What made it hard?
