What kids do

“You finished a story. That makes you an author!”

  1. Write your name.
  2. Write the title of your story.
  3. Draw a picture of yourself, the author.
  4. Ask a grown-up to sign and date it.

How to run it

  • Fill in the story title together, then let the author draw their self-portrait.
  • Hand them out at an author’s chair or a class book launch.
  • Print on card stock for a nicer finish.

Talk about it

  • What are you proudest of in your story?
  • What will you write next?
  • Who would you like to read your story to?

Take it further

Hold a “book launch”: each author reads their story aloud and gets a certificate.

Draw first, then write
