What kids do

“These letters are made only of straight lines. Pull down, slant and cross. Trace each row.”

Printed on the sheet:

  1. Trace each row. Then write the letters on the line below.

Teacher tip

Use craft sticks to build each letter on the desk before writing it.

How to use it

  • Check pencil grip at the start, and keep the sheet tilted for comfort.
  • Keep sessions short: ten good minutes beats thirty tired ones.
  • Give a minute at the end to reread the work out loud to a partner.

Watch for

Tight grips and sore hands. Try a pencil grip or a thicker pencil.

Talk about it

  • Which of your letters is your best one? Circle it.
  • What did you change when you reread your work?

Take it further

Write the letters with a wet sponge on a chalkboard.

US Letter, prints well in black and white. Free for home and classroom use: print as many copies as you need.
