Teacher tip

Set up three corners of the room for person, place and thing, and have kids walk to the right one as you call out nouns.

How to use it

  • Review the part of speech with three quick examples on the board first.
  • Act out verbs and adverbs, and hold up objects for nouns and adjectives.
  • Model the first answer on the board, thinking out loud as you write.

Watch for

Kids sorting by meaning instead of job in the sentence. Ask what the word is doing.

Talk about it

  • How did you decide which kind of word it was?
  • Which sentence on your sheet are you proudest of? Why?

Take it further

Play a silly fill-in-the-blank story game with nouns, verbs and adjectives.
