What kids do

“Things look different on the inside. What do you think is in there?”

  1. My thing:
  2. The outside
  3. The inside (label the parts)
  4. How could I check if I’m right?

How to run it

  • Show a cutaway picture (a house, a fruit, a ship) first.
  • Real things work best when you can check: an apple, a pepper, a seed pod.
  • Imaginary things are fun too: the inside of a robot or a monster.

Talk about it

  • What surprised you about the real inside?
  • Why do scientists draw cutaways?
  • What would you love to see inside?

Take it further

Cut open a fruit and draw what is really inside next to your guess.
