Design a Theme Park Ride

Design the wildest ride in the park: the track, the cars, the height rule and the safety plan.

Kids practice
engineering design, safety thinking, measurement words

What kids do

“You are the ride designer. Make the best ride ever (that’s still safe!).”

  1. Draw your ride. Show where it starts and ends.
  2. Ride facts
  3. How I keep riders safe:
  4. Thrill level

How to run it

  • Talk about the parts of a ride: track, cars, seats, lap bars.
  • A height rule needs a number: ask how they chose it.
  • Older kids can add a speed and a time.

Talk about it

  • Who is your ride for?
  • Why do rides have height rules?
  • What would you change for younger kids?

Take it further

Build the ride’s track with paper strips and test it with a marble.
