What kids do

“Close your eyes and listen like a mouse. Where is every sound coming from?”

  1. Where I listened:
  2. Draw yourself in the middle. Draw each sound where you heard it.
  3. The quietest sound I heard was…

How to run it

  • Try it in the classroom, then outside or in the hallway.
  • Kids can draw sounds as pictures, squiggles or words.
  • Two minutes of silence feels long: that’s part of the fun.

Talk about it

  • Which sound surprised you?
  • Were there sounds you only noticed with your eyes closed?
  • How could you draw a loud sound differently from a soft one?

Take it further

Make a sound map at home at night and compare it with the school one.
