Draw six signs you see around town, say what they mean, then invent a new one.

What kids do

“Signs talk without words! Draw them and say what they mean.”

  1. Signs I know
  2. A new sign I invented
  3. It means… and goes…

How to run it

  • Stop, crosswalk, restroom, recycling and exit signs are a good start.
  • Talk about why many signs use pictures.
  • Invented signs can be silly: “dragon crossing.”

Talk about it

  • Why do signs use colors like red?
  • Which sign keeps us safe?
  • Could someone who speaks another language read them?
