Teacher tip

Swap the first letter to make sit, bit and hit. Kids see that “it” hides in many words.

How to use it

  • Introduce the word on the board, read it, spell it out loud and use it in a sentence before handing out the sheet.
  • Do the trace and color boxes together, then let kids finish the find it and sentence parts on their own.
  • Play it again later in the week with a different partner. Repeat play builds speed.

Watch for

Kids who count look-alike words as matches in the find it box. Ask them to check every letter.

Talk about it

  • What other word looks a lot like this one?
  • Which word was the hardest to read? Why?

Take it further

Hunt for the word in a picture book and keep a tally.
