Teacher tip

Set up two bean cups, one watered and one not, the same day. The sheet’s prediction becomes a real test.

How to use it

  • Plant a few seeds in clear cups at the start of the unit so kids can check the sheet against real plants.
  • Bring in a real plant with its roots showing and point to each part.
  • Let partners compare answers and settle any differences with a book or a video.

Watch for

Kids who think plants get food from the soil. Plants make their own food with sunlight, water and air.

Talk about it

  • How is a seed like an egg?
  • How could we find out if that is true?

Take it further

Keep a class plant growth chart and measure the plants every Monday.
