What kids do

Printed on the sheet:

  1. Take a magnet for a walk around the room. Touch it gently to things and write what you find. Stay away from computers, phones and TVs.
  2. Not sure: test it!
  3. The most surprising thing I found:

Teacher tip

Warn kids to keep magnets away from computers, phones and cards.

How to use it

  • Give each table a magnet and a tray of small objects before the sheet.
  • Ask kids to predict first, then test, then write.
  • Start with a two-minute “I notice, I wonder” talk about the picture on the sheet.

Watch for

Kids who think all metals stick. Aluminum foil and coins usually don’t.

Talk about it

  • Are all metals magnetic? How do you know?
  • How could we find out if that is true?

Take it further

Make a magnet maze with a paper clip on top of a paper plate.
