Picture Sort: B, D or S?
A second cut-and-glue sort: nine character pictures go under b, d or s by their first sound. b and d side by side, so kids look twice.
The same idea at the other end of the word: say each character’s name, listen for the last sound and write its letter. Robot ends in t, lion in n.
“Say the name of each picture slowly. What sound do you hear LAST? Write that letter in the box.”
Ending sounds are harder to hear. Say each name slowly and stop on the last sound.
b, d, p and q mix-ups. Teach “bat before ball” for b: the line comes first.
Bring something from home that starts with the letter for a sound show-and-tell.
