What kids do

“Send this home at the start of the year or with the first homework packet. Fill in how long homework should take and how to reach you.”

Printed on the sheet:

  1. Same time, same place: pick a quiet spot and a regular start time.
  2. Supplies ready: keep pencils, crayons and paper in one box.
  3. Ask, don’t answer: “What do you think the first step is?”
  4. Short breaks: a stretch or a drink of water after 15 minutes.

  7. Homework goes home on:
  8. It should take about:

Teacher tip

Send the handout home with the first homework packet of the year.

How to use it

  • Explain the sheet to families at back-to-school night or in a note.
  • Keep the sheet in the same folder every day so kids know where to find it.
  • Introduce the sheet once, model it, then make it part of a routine so kids know what to expect.

Watch for

Kids without support or a quiet place at home. Offer a time to finish at school.
