What kids do

“Find each one in the classroom or the school. Write what you found, draw it and shade the fraction.”

Printed on the sheet:

  1. Equal parts are the same size. Halves are 2 equal parts, thirds are 3 and fourths are 4.

Teacher tip

Show a real example of a fraction, like a pizza cut in fourths.

How to use it

  • Let kids work in pairs so they can share ideas.
  • Bring clipboards so kids can draw and write on the go.
  • Let kids work with a partner so they talk through their thinking.

Watch for

Hunts in busy spaces. Plan a quiet time for the hunt.

Talk about it

  • Where else could you find these things?
  • What was the trickiest part? How did you get past it?

Take it further

Have kids make a new hunt for the class.
