What kids do

“Pick any book. Hunt through it to find each thing. Write what you find on the line.”

Printed on the sheet:

  1. The title of your book
  2. The author’s name
  3. A word with three syllables
  4. A word you don’t know (look it up!)
  5. A word that describes a character
  6. A sentence that ends with a question mark
  7. A place where part of the story happens
  8. Your favorite sentence on page 10

Teacher tip

Let kids use their own library book so the hunt fits any reading level.

How to use it

  • Set clear boundaries for where kids can look.
  • Give a time limit and a signal for when to come back.
  • Slide it into a sheet protector so kids can play again with a dry-erase marker.

Watch for

Kids who rush and do not look closely. Ask them to tell you about one find.

Talk about it

  • Where else could you find these things?
  • What was the trickiest part? How did you get past it?

Take it further

Send it home as a family hunt for the weekend.

US Letter, prints well in black and white. Free for home and classroom use: print as many copies as you need.
