Printed on the sheet:

  2. Tomorrow I will visit Grandma.
  3. The cat sleeps on the rug.
  4. Last night it snowed .

Teacher tip

Draw a timeline on the board: yesterday, today, tomorrow. Point to it as you read each sentence.

How to use it

  • Review the part of speech with three quick examples on the board first.
  • Act out verbs and adverbs, and hold up objects for nouns and adjectives.
  • Keep a word wall or a word bank in reach so spelling does not stop the ideas.

Watch for

Kids sorting by meaning instead of job in the sentence. Ask what the word is doing.

Talk about it

  • How did you decide which kind of word it was?
  • Which sentence on your sheet are you proudest of? Why?

Take it further

Play a silly fill-in-the-blank story game with nouns, verbs and adjectives.
