What kids do

“Find the words that need a capital letter. Write each sentence the right way.”

Printed on the sheet:

  1. Use a capital letter for the first word in a sentence the word I names of people, pets and places
  2. 1. my dog is named max.
  3. 3. i like to swim.
  4. 4. we live in texas.
  5. 5. mom and i went to the zoo.

Teacher tip

Give kids a magnifying glass to “investigate” each sentence before they fix it.

How to use it

  • Show one mistake-filled sentence on the board and fix it together first.
  • Have kids read each sentence aloud to hear where the pauses and stops go.
  • Model the first answer on the board, thinking out loud as you write.

Watch for

Capitals sprinkled in the middle of words. Review when a capital is needed.

Talk about it

  • Which mistake was the hardest to spot?
  • What did you change when you reread your work?
