What kids do

“Every vote counts! Run a class election.”

  1. We are voting on:
  2. The choices:
  3. A campaign poster for my choice
  4. Votes (one box per vote)
  5. The winner was…
  6. If my choice lost, I feel… and I will…

How to run it

  • Vote on something real but small: the class read-aloud or recess game.
  • Secret ballots on scrap paper keep it fair.
  • Talk about being a good sport when your pick loses.

Talk about it

  • Why do secret ballots matter?
  • Is the majority always right?
  • Who votes in real elections?

Take it further

Ask a grown-up why voting matters to them.
