Pick a real problem at school, like a messy coat area or long lunch lines, and plan a fix.

Grades
2–5
Time
about 30 minutes
Kids practice
civic action, problem solving, persuasive planning

What kids do

“You’re the problem solver! Pick something to fix and make a plan.”

  1. The problem is… It matters because…
  2. Before
  3. After my fix
  4. My plan

How to run it

  • Brainstorm problems as a class first.
  • The fix should be something kids can really help with.
  • Present the best plans to the principal.

Talk about it

  • Who does this problem affect?
  • What could go wrong with your fix?
  • Who has the power to say yes?

Take it further

Try your fix for a week and report back.
