What kids do

Printed on the sheet:

  1. Grown-ups: read each move out loud and try it together. Does it make your body calm or wiggly?
  2. Kids write the number in the right box. Both are okay at the right time!
  3. Write each number in the right box.
  4. 1. Take a slow breath.
  5. 2. Jump like a frog.
  6. 3. Hug a stuffed animal.
  7. 4. Shake your hands fast.
  8. 5. Stretch up slowly.

Teacher tip

Do each move for real before kids sort it.

How to use it

  • Do the calming practice yourself with the class. Kids follow your pace.
  • Dim the lights or play soft music while kids work.
  • Model your own answer first. Kids open up more when the grown-up goes first.

Watch for

Some kids don’t like closing their eyes. Let them look at the floor instead.

Talk about it

  • When could you use this at home?
  • Have you ever been in a moment like this? What happened?

Take it further

Set up a calm-down corner with the strategy cards and a timer.
