What kids do

Printed on the sheet:

  1. Think of something you are thankful for that starts with each letter. X is tricky: try a word with an x in it, like box or six!
  2. I am thankful for…

Teacher tip

Let kids work in pairs for the tricky letters like Q, X and Z.

How to use it

  • Teach the strategy when kids are calm, so it is ready for big moments.
  • Use it after recess or before a test to settle the room.
  • Use it during morning meeting or right after recess, when the topic is fresh.

Watch for

Some kids don’t like closing their eyes. Let them look at the floor instead.

Talk about it

  • When could you use this at home?
  • How might someone else see it differently?

Take it further

Start each afternoon with one minute of mindful breathing.
