Letter bank-ig-op-ugigopug

Teacher tip

Try every letter in the bank, even the silly ones. Then keep the real words.

How to use it

  • Write the word family ending on the board and add starting letters together.
  • Read the words in each family like a chant to hear the rhyme.
  • Say every word on the sheet together before kids start, stretching the sounds.

Watch for

Kids who make silly words and count them as real. Ask them to use the word in a sentence.

Talk about it

  • Can you make a silly word with this ending?
  • How did you figure out that word?

Take it further

Read a rhyming picture book and list the word families you hear.
